What is Respite?

Respite means period(s) of relief and/or rest for the caregiver(s), on a planned or periodic basis. The Huron Respite Network provides the opportunity for a caregiver to arrange a regular or occasional break in order to maintain balance in their lives.

Caregivers need opportunities to take a break from their daily activities of caring for another individual. This break provides the opportunity for the child or adult with special needs to socialize and build new relationships, as well as gain independence.

An emergency is a crisis situation where the caregiver is unable to continue providing care.
